If the idea of a gold or platinum wedding ring isn’t your jam, alternative metals like Titanium are an appealling choice for a few reasons:
They’re inexpensive. Compared to 18ct gold or platinum, a titanium wedding band will set you back a fraction of the cost of a precious metal ring. Given the costs of a wedding, that financial is very appealing for most of us.
They’re light. Seriously, pick one up. A titanium ring feels like a feather compared to a platinum wedding ring, if that’s appealing to you.
They’re strong. Unlike precious metals, titanium wedding rings are more scratch resistant for your day to day roughness. They do eventually wear, which is more difficult to restore than a precious metal ring, but they hold up very well in the early years of wearing it.
There’s one more thing most ring sellers won’t tell you, that you really do need to keep in mind. It’s this:
If a titanium wedding ring gets tight? Take it off right away.
More often than you’d think, I get calls from people needing engagement rings and wedding rings cut off. It happens. A ring gets a little tight, bit by bit, and suddenly you realise one day you can’t actually take the thing off.
For gold and platinum rings, a ring that gets stuck is an easy problem to fix. You visit a jeweller. Snip. Bend. Ring is off.
It’s not as simple to remove titanium wedding rings. The very factors that make titanium rings strong, light and scratch resistant also make them more difficult to be removed. I personally wouldn’t want a ring stuck on my finger, knowing that a jeweller can’t easily cut it off. I’m sure anyone would agree.
So if you’re about to buy a titanium wedding band (or have one on your finger right now!), remember to take it off if it ever starts getting tight.
