For many men, their wedding ring is one of the few pieces of jewellery they wear. Not sure what to look for when choosing one? Here are 3 important questions to ask, for peace of mind with your design.
1. Can it be resized?
Your wedding ring is more than just a piece of jewellery. The meaning behind it means you'll want to be able to wear it for many years, even if you don't wear it every day. So, if you ever gain weight, lose weight, or want to hand the piece down to a family member, make sure it can be resized.
Some rings made from metals like titanium and tungsten can't be resized. Stick with precious metals like gold, white gold, rose gold, or platinum to ensure it can be resized if needed.
2. Will it scratch easily?
To keep your wedding ring looking great, think carefully about how practical your ring design will be.
A wide band with a highly polished design will scratch easily with day-to-day wear, and will be noticeable. While this might be fine for a office worker, if your ring will be subject to rough treatment, consider an alternative design. Wedding rings with a matte or rough brushed finish look great, and hide scratches far better than their polished counterparts.
3. Will it be comfortable?
If you're going to be wearing your wedding ring often, you'll want to make sure that it's comfortable. Some designs protrude out on awkward angles, which can be uncomfortable for your ring finger's neighbours.
Ask for a comfort fit band, or better still, ask to try on a few different styles to see what works best for your hand. Even if your piece is custom made, your jeweller should be able to give you a good idea of how the ring will feel on your finger..
