Caring for your Harlequin engagement and wedding rings
With a beautiful new handmade Harlequin ring on your finger, you may be wondering how best to take care of it. Here are some tips for enjoying it for many years to come:
Remove your ring for heavy lifting.
Precious metals bend with force (that’s how I made your ring for you in the first place!) so take your ring off when you’re doing activities that could bend it, like gym workouts, gardening, moving house, etc.Remove your ring in cold environments.
Our finger size changes with the heat and cold. When it’s really cold? Your hands can shrink enough for your ring to slip right off and get lost. So be sure to remove your ring for activities like swimming in the ocean, or visiting the snow.Keep your ring clear of creams, grease and grime.
While it won’t do any damage to your ring itself, substances can get under your gemstone settings which can make your gemstones look grubby. For this reason, I recommend keeping your ring away from things like hand creams, lotions, cooking substances, dirt, etc.Store your ring carefully.
When you’re not wearing your ring, keep in in a safe, protective place. You can use your original ring box, or a jewellery box with a soft lining that keeps each ring separated from each other and other jewellery to avoid unnecessary scratching.Clean your ring at home occasionally.
If you’d like to clean your ring yourself in between visits to the workshop, you can do so without any fancy cleaning chemicals. If your ring has diamonds, sapphires or spinels, use a soft toothbrush, dishwashing liquid and warm water. Let it soak a while, then give it a scrub to remove any grime. (If it has another softer gemstone, get my specific advice before using a toothbrush on it).Bring your ring in for a professional clean annually.
As well as making your ring look freshly sparkly, a professional clean ensures I can check your ring for early signs of more significant wear and tear on the structure of your ring. See more about our professional clean and polish services here.
